I recently published a story in Mamamia – “I’m an alcohol coach: these are the three signs that you may want to rethink the way you drink” – that raised a few questions, including:
- “How can an alcohol coach help me take back control of my drinking?”
- “Can coaching really help to change a person’s relationship with alcohol?”
I’ve answered the most common questions I receive about alcohol coaching below.
If you’re interested in coaching and want to know more, you can book in a free discussion call to talk about it.
How can an alcohol coach help me to take back control of my drinking?
I support you to gain back control over the way you drink without feeling like you’re missing out or depriving yourself.
Coaching is tailored to your situation and needs, and is completely confidential.
As a coach, I:
- Help you achieve the mindset shifts that are so powerful in changing your relationship with alcohol and won’t have you relying on willpower.
- Provide suggestions and strategies to help you to manage situations you may be dealing with.
- Give you input, honest feedback and operate as a sounding board.
- Provide strategies, resources and tactics to help you achieve your goal.
- Provide accountability.
- Respect your confidentiality.
The science-based, proven methodology that I use can support you to have a ‘take it or leave it’ attitude towards drinking.
It’s about helping you to regain the power and find freedom.
Can coaching really help to change a person’s relationship with alcohol?
Yes it can. The reason I love coaching is the satisfaction I get when my clients experience the transformation they have been seeking.
You can read the testimonials below to see what some of my coaching clients have said.
I’m trained in the This Naked Mind methodology and in 2022 they surveyed almost 3,000 participants of their programs to gauge the effectiveness of their method.
The results were impressive – 83 per cent of respondents had decreased the amount they drank or were no longer drinking after coming in contact with This Naked Mind.
From a personal perspective I know that this method works – it helped me to change the way that I drank and I have seen similar results with my clients.
However, there are no guarantees. If you want successful results you need to commit to making a change and doing the work.
I promise that if you do, you will see some remarkable results.
Is alcohol coaching only for people who want to give up drinking altogether?
No. This is not about rules or restrictions. You decide what your goal is and I will work with you to help you achieve that.
Some people want to stop drinking while others want to be able to ‘take it or leave it’.
There is never a requirement to stop drinking alcohol (unless that is your goal, of course).
Are alcohol coaches trained?
Unfortunately, the industry is not regulated so anyone can call themselves an alcohol coach.
That is why it’s so important to find someone who is qualified and experienced.
I’m a certified This Naked Mind alcohol coach who has completed an intensive six-month coaching program.
The This Naked Mind methodology is a judgement-free, positive behaviour change approach that has helped hundreds of thousands of people across the world to change their relationship with alcohol.
I continue to build on my training with ongoing professional development and by keeping abreast of the latest research in the field.
I also bring the experience from my career in corporate communications, in particular change management. The principles of managing change within organisations are equally effective in empowering individuals to make changes in their lives.
What do people say about coaching?
Here are some testimonials from some of my clients about the benefits of coaching:
“I’m really grateful for the coaching which has focussed my attention and placed me firmly on the path to change. I’m doing ridiculously well and don’t really understand why it’s so easy this time round.”
KM
“Very inspiring. Thanks to you, it’s been almost two months for me. Most weekends are now alcohol free, something that was unimaginable a few months ago.”
“I experienced a fundamental mind shift. I realised that I was a product of my environment but I didn’t have to be and, for the sake of my health and quality of life, I very much needed to make a change.”
“To no longer be beholden to alcohol is beyond liberating. And man I feel good! The massive change was truly because of you.”
